In this novel ghosts are common cabbage that exists everywhere and fear of them is not really present outside of plain mortals. Also, novel cut out the part where he sends friend to buy him anti ghost items which he used to kill ghost related things. With that he could easily one shot far stronger ghosts than anything in city :)

Later in arc 3 pretty much 99.9% of strong people are former immortals who lost lives when immortality broke and anyone with that cultivation was defaulted to rot and decline until they lost body and they were left as soul/ghost.

That's the stature of a fearless man, a true gangsta. He doesn't fear them, they fear him lol!! He probably eats ghosts for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and commands them as his servants/subordinates like King Solomon with demons aha.
